Different Flight indications

- On the road to Armageddon  -

Before continuing please read a prerequisite item in regards to Galaxy Class Flight group,   (click here) .

There are several major configurations exist for the Nebula Class starship, for simplicity sake the class can be divided 2 major release categories:

  • Flight I:  (NCS-I for short) TNG era fitted systems, eg. phasers, shields, warp drive, computer systems.
  • Flight I-b: Galaxy Class Stardrive and Saucer section. eg. USS Melbourne.
  • Flight II:  (NCS-II for short) late DS9/VGR era fitted systems, eg. phasers, shields, warp drive, computer systems and deflector.

With each flight group variants or subtype will exist.

For Flight I several subtypes exist and these are:

  • Basic fitted Subtype I eg. mission pod less Nebula Class. Candiate for mission pod fitting
  • Quad Warp Engine fitted Subtype II eg. USS Melbourne (TNG "Best of both Worlds" Part II), assume to have deep space roles. presumed to have Galaxy Class primary engineering hull (minus the neck section).

Canon mission pods are;

  • AWACS style 360 degrees sensor pod.
  • War pod plus extra double sided shield grid pylon/fin.

Nebula Class Type II is slightly larger than Nebula Class Type  I

Indention (ie. windows) on the saucer section suggested this is a Nebula Class Flight II. Also, notice the Orange Deflector. Scene shown from DS9's "What You Leave Behind".

Nebula Class Flight II's Orange Color Deflector (1). VGR Message in a Bottle.

Nebula Class Flight I's "red (none glowing) & blue color" (glow) deflector (2). TNG "The Wounded"

Nebula Class Flight I shown during ST: Generations (4). Notice the smaller shuttle bay on the saucer section.

Nebula Class Flight II shown during VGR "Message in a Bottle" (3), notice the Galaxy Class Saucer fitted for this type.

Nebula Class Flight I shown during ST: Generations (5), Notice smooth edge of the saucer, compare this to the scene shown from DS9's "What You Leave Behind".

An unknown Nebula Class approaching near DS9 station. Use for approximating relative size.

Showing damage on the warp nacelles, yet it did not cause warp breach. Indication of better stability than the Galaxy Class Flight I (TNG era refer to TNG "Cause and Effect")

A Nebula Class with Sensor pod. Assumed role AWACS duty. TNG "The Wounded"

NCS Flight II's Yellowish Colored phaser indicates newer type of phaser emitters. Refer this link for more information.

Final Comments:

  • Nebula Class in general seems to offer better system stability, greater torpedo firepower, higher acceleration, speed and flexibility.
